Immediate Action Required to Help Save the Joshua Tree and Desert Communities.
The Joshua Tree is listed as an Endangered Species. Corporate developers are over developing the desert and threaten Communities and the entire ecosystem.
Currently the desert cities are facing critical habitat loss with the increased development specific to Short Term Rentals, Glamping and glowing domes as advertised by AirBNB during the Oscars 2021.
Cameron Barrows and the team at UCR have done extensive field research determining that the Joshua tree is migrating to cooler temperatures. One could say, Yucca Valley will have more Joshua Trees than Joshua Tree National Park in 10 years. Last year the Joshua Tree was listed as a temporary candidate for the Extinction list (CESA) joining the Mojave Desert Tortoise.
Until recently the Mesa in Yucca Valley has been overlooked by Corporate Developers. In the last year, I have personally have seen; developers removing trees in the middle of the night (illegal), corporations developing STVRs in communities, housing market stressed due to STVRs, dark skies diminish, families unable to ride their horses because of traffic, families fear for their pets, neighborhoods up at night because of music and parties. I also know that there are 4 new STVRs being built around me in the next 6 months. I have heard many other horror stories, these are mine.
This has been a concern in Joshua Tree and Palm Springs and now an increasing problem in the other desert cities. We need help to enforce the status of the Joshua Tree and Desert Tortoise. We need to address the housing crisis not Short Term Rentals. We need limits and zoning. We need to protect the people, wildlife and land. We need your help.
The local communities are asking this issue to be put on the Ballot.
